Galle Fort - the local way!

Visit one of the oldest living forts in the world with a fifth-generation resident who can fill you in on not just the fort's history but also the community's hospitality and way of life.

During Sri Lanka's colonial history, the Portuguese, Dutch, and British all held control of the UNESCO Galle Fort at various times. The Galle Fort was first built by the Portuguese in 1588 and later fortified by the Dutch during their reign. Take a stroll down the cobblestone alleyways where the influence of the Portuguese, Dutch, and British is still visible. Your local host who grew up around the tales of the fort and running along these very same streets, will recount the tales and tell you all about the local way of life of the people of the fort.
